Born to Run

On a rainy Saturday on Parents Weekend against an inferior opponent, Boston College re-introduced smashmouth football to the Heights beating URI 42-0 before a small, but spirited group of diehards at Alumni Stadium.

In the teams' first meeting since 1917, Boston College showed off its powerful running game in front of many proud parents, including the Boss himself who watched the game from the President's suite.

QB CONTROVERSY?
Those who watched the game yesterday surely noticed Chris Crane's continued struggles at the helm of BC's offense, and recognized that a QB controversy continues to brew for the Eagles. While no one was expecting Crane to come in and be the next Matt Ryan, even the most realistic BC backer was hoping for better than this kind of production from the 5th year signal caller.

Unfortunately for Coach Jags and the Eagles, neither Crane nor Davis appear to pose much threat through the air. With the meat of the ACC schedule just ahead, look for teams to start stacking the box on defense with 7 and 8 defenders at the line of scrimmage daring BC to beat them through the air...

JUST FOR KICKS
Boston College sophomore kicker Greg Abilheira got a chance to see some action, kicking the extra point on BC's final TD, on an emotional day for Abilheira and his family.

SIZE MATTERS
As BC rushers pounded out 290 yards on the ground, URI players were overwhelmed by the difference in size in the BC offensive line. Recognizing that the weather, and QB execution, would not allow BC to gain much through the air, offensive coordinator Steve Logan seemed content to watch the Davis/Crane combo hand the ball off to a quartet of running backs: Josh Haden, Jeff Smith, Montel Harris, and Razzie Smith. In fact, late in the game, fans may have noticed a split backfield that included transfer QB Codi Boek in at running back. Is that something to look for in the future?
